Hookah History
We're living in the times when new, hip products are revolutionizing
the market everyday. There is always something bigger and more appealing to the
consumers eyes on the horizon. Our product, the hookah, has crept up and taken a
significant place on the American market since its recent arrival.
What is this “hookah” everyone is raving about? What is this buzz that is going around?
This hookah “thing” as you might call it, is old. In fact it is ancient. Let us take a journey back in time to the birth of hookah. The water pipe idea originated in India. But not fully developed, then it was only made of coconut shells. When the concept of hookah was fully developed it branched off to Iran, where it then spread fast throughout the entire Arabian region. Finally reaching Turkey, the hookah took off like a wild fire. There, the nargile (as they call it) became one of the oldest and deeply rooted traditions in Turkey, hitting its highest point of popularity during the time of Murat II.
In the mid 1600's the Turks took it so seriously that written rules were created for lighting the pipe. If a die hard smoker saw anyone lighting in a wrong manner he would tell them “do yourself and the sacred nargile a favor and extinguish it”.
it was found fashionable for upper class ladies of the 19th and earl 20th century
to smoke hookah. And many even had themselves photographed with it. With time,
however, Hookah became less popular as cigarettes and cigars became more accommodating.
But now as the evils of cigarettes and cigars are more apparent, the hookah is becoming
more and more popular due to its complete lack of tar. Consumers can feel safer
with hookah.
Hookah is spreading and the ancient Turkish tradition is fast becoming
an American one. Either in a chilled lounge, bar, or a rocking party, the hookah will
always be there to provide the smoothest tastiest smoking fun out there.
